For data protection law, Blab Media Ltd is the "controller" of your personal information. You can contact us at [email protected].
The short version
- The free CV check runs in your web browser. Your CV is not uploaded to our servers for the free check.
- If you ask to see your top issues, we collect your email address and your score.
- If you buy a paid product, we process your CV and payment details so we can deliver it.
- We do not sell your personal information.
What information we collect and why
| Information | Why we use it | Our legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Your CV and any job advert you add for the free check. These stay in your browser and are not sent to us. | To work out your score and show you results. | Not applicable, because we do not receive this information. |
| Your email address and your score, when you ask to unlock your top issues. | To store your email address on our mailing list, and to send you job-search tips and information about our services. | Your consent. You can withdraw it at any time. |
| Your CV, job advert and any details you give us when you buy a paid product. | To produce your report, cover letter or email and deliver it to you. | Performing our contract with you. |
| Your name, email address and order details when you buy. | To take payment, send your order, keep accounting records and handle refunds. | Performing our contract with you, and meeting our legal obligations (tax and accounting). |
| Technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, held in server logs. | To keep the site secure, prevent abuse and fix faults. | Our legitimate interests in running a secure service. |
| Messages you send us. | To reply and keep a record of your request. | Our legitimate interests in answering enquiries, or performing our contract with you. |
Your CV may contain sensitive details, such as health information, or details about your ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation. You do not need to include any of these to use our services, and we recommend you leave them out.
Who we share information with
We use trusted providers to run the service. They may only use your information to provide their service to us:
- Cloudflare, for hosting, security and delivery of this website.
- Kit (an email service provider), to store our mailing list and send emails.
- Stripe, to take card payments when paid products are available. We do not see or store your full card number.
- An artificial intelligence provider, when you buy a product that writes text for you, such as a cover letter or email. Your CV and the job advert you supply are sent to the provider so it can generate the text. We will only use providers whose terms do not allow them to train their models on our customers' content, and we will name the provider in this policy before the product launches.
We may also share information where the law requires it, or to protect our rights, and with our professional advisers such as accountants.
Transfers outside the UK
Some of these providers are based in, or process information in, countries outside the UK, including the United States. Where that happens we rely on a recognised safeguard, such as the UK's data bridge arrangements, the UK addendum to standard contractual clauses, or equivalent protections.
How long we keep information
- Mailing list details: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
- CVs, job adverts and generated documents for paid products: we intend to delete them within 30 days of delivery, unless you ask us to delete them sooner. We will not keep them longer without telling you.
- Order and payment records: for 6 years, to meet tax and accounting requirements.
- Server logs: for a short period, normally no more than 30 days.
Marketing emails
We will only send you marketing emails if you have asked for them. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to stop them. If you buy from us, we may send you emails about similar services, and you can opt out of these at any time.
Cookies and similar technologies
Necessary: we store your cookie choice in your browser (local storage) so we do not ask you on every visit. Our hosting provider may also use essential technical mechanisms to keep the site secure. These do not need consent.
Optional, only if you agree: we may use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used, and Google Ads to measure which adverts lead to visits and sign-ups and to show relevant adverts. These tools set cookies or similar identifiers and send information such as your IP address, device and pages viewed to Google. Google may process this outside the UK. They stay off unless you choose "Accept all" or switch them on under "Manage choices".
If you tick "Remember my scores on this device", we save the dates and scores of your checks in your browser's local storage so we can show your progress. It never includes the text of your CV, it is not sent to us, and unticking the box deletes it.
If you use the share buttons, you are sent to the platform you chose (for example LinkedIn, X, Facebook, WhatsApp or Bluesky) or your device's share menu. Those platforms have their own privacy policies. We do not receive anything from them, and the share card contains your score only.
See our cookie policy for the full list. You can refuse without losing any part of the site. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using "Cookie settings" in the footer of every page. Withdrawing does not affect use made before you withdrew. We ask again after about six months. See Google's information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and manage adverts at adssettings.google.com.
Your rights
You have the right to ask us for a copy of your personal information, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We aim to reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
Automated scoring
Your CV score is produced automatically by fixed rules. It is a guide to readability and quality. It has no legal or similarly significant effect on you, and it is not a prediction or decision made by any employer.
Children
Our services are not aimed at anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
